The Emirate of Dubai was a founder member of the United Arab Emirates when the British left the Persian Gulf in 1971. Firstly oil and then trade, construction and banking have turned an oases in the desert into a major global city. Despite the outward appearance of a stable and progressive city there are serious concerns about the human rights of the foreign labourers who work there.
On the way to Australia my stop-over in Dubai was just 23 hours but I managed to both suffer heat-stroke in the 45 degree C heat and require a trip to the Police station. This shot shows the reflection of a Mosque in the business district.
