People all over the UK have fireworks displays and light bonfires on the 5th november in remembrance of Guy Fawkes. On the 5th November 1605 Guy Fawkes was arrested while attempting to blow up King James I and his government using gunpowder. In the preceding days Fawkes had stockpiled the explosive in cellars beneath the House of Lords in the Parliament building. Fawkes was found guilty of high treason and sentenced to death. He was to be 'hung, drawn and quartered' but instead jumped to his death from some scaffolding as he was being led to his noose.
This fireworks display in Balgay Park, Dundee, is part of the 5th of November celebrations.
