Fionnaghal is an 11m steel fishing trawler built in 1989 and registered at Tarbert, Argyll. Fionnaghal translates from Gaelic as 'white shoulder' and is often anglicised to Flora. Fishing is a large but reducing industry in Scotland owing to dwindling fish-stocks and strict EU quotas. Sixty per cent of fish caught in the UK are caught in Scotland.
I photographed this trawler while on a wildlife-watching boat trip around Jura, Scarba and the Slate Islands. We saw sea eagles, red deer, porpoise, common seals and buzzards.
